It’s no secret that I buy a lot of my wardrobe pieces off of Shein (I’ve been shopping this site for nearly 4 years now!). The prices are great and the clothes are trendy. If you aren’t diligent about your purchases though, you can end up with an item that is less than satisfactory. (Amazon can be the same way.) That’s why I decided to share some tips to help you confidently make bomb Shein purchases!

“Always check reviews.”
Putting the most obvious tip up first. There’s no better way to get a feel for an item than to see what others have to say about it. I typically only buy an item with great reviews accompanied by photos.
“Check measurements.”
Sizing varies from item-to-item. Have a measuring tape handy to check your size. Add your measurements on the sight too for easy reference!
“Search discount codes.”
There’s always a discount code floating around that can be applied to any order amount. Just google “Shein promo code” and try one until it works. Most are for 20% off. Sites I like to check are Retailmenot.com and Offers.com. (I check these sites before making any online purchase.)

“Order with enough time.”
My order ship times have all been less than two weeks, around 8 days. But I’ve heard stories of it taking much longer, especially during the pandemic. Plan for longer ship times if the item you’re buying is for an important event. The site’s shipping estimates have always been accurate in my experience though. I’d also like to add that my ship times have been great even with the USPS experiencing delays.
Keep in mind that your items may be shipped separately from each other. This is because some things ship from China and some ship from right here in the states. My last order was this way. (Despite the ship location, my items from China only arrived a day later than my US shipped item.)
Also, set up tracking updates through Facebook messenger to give you even more peace of mind. I get alerts when my items are shipped and when they are delivered.
“Adjust your expectations.”
You can’t pay Shein prices and expect Nordstrom quality. The clothes are decent, but if you expect “investment type pieces” you will always be let down. After all, it’s fast fashion! I’d compare the quality to Forever21 or H&M. (But I have received some things that have been such good quality it blew my mind!)

“Returns are almost as easy as Amazon”
If an item is returnable, all you have to do is follow the instruction on the website and ship your items. You are refunded as soon as they receive the product, if not before.
Extra ways to save money!
Wait for site-wide shipping. It happens often and it’s great because free shipping codes and discount codes can’t be used together.
Write reviews on items you’ve already bought to earn Shein points. These points can be applied to future purchases. That’s how I got this bathing suit for $4. I waited for free site-wide shipping, applied a 20% off code that I googled, and then applied my Shein points.
Participate in activities. Shein will alert you when there is a chance to earn points (if you have alerts set up). The activities vary. Sometimes it’s a live video or a design contest.
Things to keep in mind
Some things can’t be returned. See the return policy here.
Shipping insurance isn’t necessary. It doesn’t give you free returns. You get one free return label per order in the US. The insurance guarantees your stuff will be replaced if reported lost. I’ve never needed this.
You can’t change your email once you set up an account. Not sure of the reason for this, but it’s good to keep in mind.
ROMWE and Shein are the same company. Yeah, I just learned this myself!
Multiple codes can’t be used.
Shoes, tops (sweaters, blouses, tees), and dresses seem to be the best quality items.
Shein points expire. Lame.
