7 lazy ways to stay healthy

May 29, 2019 Leave a Comment

Before having Jackson, even while I was pregnant, I was at the gym 5 days a week. Now I’m lucky to go once a month…if that! My time restraints haven’t stopped me from trying to stay fit and healthy though. I’ve just had to get creative with what I do and where I do it. Here are some of the lazy things I do to stay in shape!

  • Purposefully skip the front parking spot.

Grabbing that front row parking spot can be so tempting. Sometimes I’ll take it! Like when I was 8 months pregnant and I had to waddle everywhere. My friends called it pregnancy parking! On a normal day, when I’m not in a terrible hurry, I’ll take a spot in the back of the parking lot. It’s a simple way to get in a few more steps everyday!

  • Do small workouts while you’re standing stationary.

While I’m cutting vegetables, folding laundry, brushing my teeth, or doing anything that requires me to stay in one spot I will get in a few squats, leg lifts or lunges. My husband has laughed at me many times for doing squats while curling my hair!

  • Squeeze in a mini workout before a shower.

I pick three movements and do 3 sets of 5 before a shower. For example: 5 lunges-5 tricep dips-5 side dips. Repeat 3 times. I switch up the exercises to keep myself from getting bored and to workout different muscles.

  • Go grocery shopping, don’t go for pick up.

I love grocery pick up. On a hectic day it’s my best friend. But when I have a chance to actually go into the store, I take it. I tracked my steps during a normal shopping trip once and it was about 300 steps! Not bad for multitasking.

  • Stretch before bed.

I just do a few stretches before bed occasionally to relieve stress and to help me sleep. Some nights it’s just my neck and others nights I might actually do full on yoga poses. I just do whatever I have the time for and energy. Try to really focus on your breathing. The extra oxygen is great for you body and mind.

  • Drink your veggies.

My son enjoys smoothies more than ice cream (I know, it’s shocking). I started adding handfuls of spinach or kale to our morning smoothies to sneak in an extra serving everyday. He can’t taste them and neither can I. Win!

  • Make a swap.

Do you normally get a soda at dinner? Swap one refill for water. Do you normally have a glass of wine before bed? One night try hot tea instead! The point is to swap ONE unhealthy thing a day for something healthy! Keep it interesting and change up your swap daily.

I know that doing these things isn’t a lot. You won’t get a six pack from doing a tiny workout before your shower. And cutting out one drink won’t reduce your calorie intake drastically, but it does help to establish a healthy mindset without trying! I find that when I do one healthy thing, I’m more likely to do something else. I don’t know about you, but for me, making lots of changes can be intimidating! I’ll give up much quicker. So start small friends and give yourself time to change your old habits!
