6 things you should know about yourself

May 4, 2020 Leave a Comment

You know everything about yourself, right? I’ve learned that’s not always true! With this time at home, I’ve come to realize there’s a few things I didn’t know about myself, or at least didn’t have committed to memory. Some are kinda important and some are just convenient. Check the list below to see if you’ve got a gap in self-knowledge too!

self care
anxiety
setting boundaries
beauty
makeup

Your measurements

Before you freak out, this is not weight loss related! All bodies are beautiful and a number doesn’t matter…except when you’re ordering clothes online! How many times have you found a super cute dress or pair of jeans and just guessed what your size was? You wait a week and once it arrives you are irritated it doesn’t fit. We all know a size in one brand doesn’t always fit like the same size in another brand! So I took a moment this month to commit to memory my measurements, including inseam length. It made ordering online clothes so much easier. I no longer go by the number when picking a size, but the measurements of the individual item. Not to brag or anything but I recently successfully ordered a bra online. Need help taking your measurements? Check out this video.

Your Blood type

I’m kinda shocked by how many people don’t know this! Not only can it help save your life, but it can make it easier to save another life. My friend recently told me she knew a girl who needed a transfusion and I was a match. I made an appointment that night to donate at the American Red Cross. Had I not known my blood type, I couldn’t have helped as quickly as I did.

Your Anxiety Triggers

This is something we don’t think about often. We all suffer from anxiety, but rarely do we stop to really see what’s truly causing it. Sometimes it’s not an obvious answer either! Check out this article to learn how to identify yours and how to manage it!

Your skin’s undertones

Steps to finding a foundation: pick shade, take home, put on, groan because it doesn’t match! Sadly, repeat process a few times. I’ve been on the carousel of makeup more times than I care to admit. Anyone else? It doesn’t have to be this way. Knowing your skin’s undertones can make picking a shade easier, especially if you’re ordering online like most of us are doing these days. It can also help you pick clothing, jewelry, and hair colors that will look best on you! To find yours check out this post by Cosmo.

What truly makes you happy

Yes, you get happy when a photo on Instagram get’s more likes than usual. And you get all giddy when you find a great deal online. But what really truly makes your heart happy? Chances are you haven’t narrowed it down all the way. I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. I don’t want to waste my time on anything that isn’t what I really want to be doing. Take a moment over the next few days and focus on finding that which makes your soul joyful, and then make time for it!

Your Boundaries

You might have an idea what your boundaries are, but do you know exactly when too much is too much? Having confidence on where you draw the line will make it easier to stop people from crossing it! As a mother I had a hard time figuring out what boundaries I would set for people when it came to my child. I had to sit down and really think about what made me uncomfortable or irritated. For example, I didn’t want anyone in the delivery room except Travis, not even my mom. It irritated people to have a line drawn but it was best for my mental health.
