D.I.Y Heart Chalk

D.I.Y Heart Chalk

After creating a miniature excavation site to replace the crappy one I gave my son for Christmas (long story short, the prize was a rock…not worth digging into a block. So I made one with a toy truck inside) I decided to use the same ingredients to make some adorable d.i.y Valentine’s Day chalk as well.

I loved how yummy they looked next to each other. Like they were candies instead of chalk! I think they’d make great valentines as well. Especially if you have to social distance, these can be left on a porch and not spoil! Put them in a cute container (like the one below) and add a little note! Perfect!

Three Ingredient D.I.Y Heart Shaped Chalk

I got this plastic jar from the Dollar Tree.

Here’s what you’ll need. I got the paint and plaster at Walmart and the mold at the Dollar Tree.

  • 1.5 lukewarm cups of water
  • 2 cups plaster (I tried baking soda but it didn’t dry as quickly and fell apart easily)
  • tempera paint in the colors you want
  • 1-2 silicone mold

$7 total for everything. Blue paint not pictured,

The whole process was pretty simple!

Just mix all the ingredients together and pour into molds. See? Easy!

(I mixed everything together in a large spouted bowl with a handle to make pouring painless.)

I poured white in the molds first, then added red to get the pink colors. After red I added blue to get purple. I mixed the blue separately. I did it this way to reduce dirty dishes. #busymomlife

If you’d like to mix them separately pour white plaster into individual bowls, add paint, mix, and fill molds.

Do make sure to get out the air bubbles. I did this my tapping the bottom of each mold for a few seconds with an old paint brush handle. Rinse between colors unless you want a marbled look!

Let the molds dry for 12 hours then remove to dry in the open air for another 6-12 hours.

(With the leftover plaster I made large glitter rounds using a mini muffin tin. Just sprinkle in the glitter and mix. I added some to the top as well.)

Hope you guys enjoyed this “do it yourself”. Let me know what projects you have planned for you little ones this Valentine”s day.
